Daemon Prince of Nurgle WIP

Had this lovely fellow sitting around for a while. Initially, folks weren't too keen on the head I used for him, but I kinda like him more now that it's painted up. The head melds better now I think, Still a little ways to go on him, but I like how grotesque he's turning out.  His pose kinda sprang out a bit more too, like he's plodding along stalking some prey.

Started with a white basecoat, followed by Ogryn Camo base for the body, Balor Brown for the wing membrane, and a lot of Typhus Corruption and Ryza Rust for his axes.

After all the base colors were on it was a steady wash of Sewer Water and Baby Poop. Yes, you read that right. I also played around with Nurgle's Rot too, mostly on his gut and wounds. I like the effect it made and will be using it to make some nasty little toxic pools on some terrain and bases in the future.

Daemon Prince of Nurgle

I'm plugging away at painting 70+ Plaguebearers at the moment, and it's going slow and steady. After I basecoated and then washed them yesterday, it occurred to me that I needed a Daemon Prince for my Fantasy army. I can't always roll with the big man every game, so I went searching through my bitz to kit bash a Prince of Filth to lead them.

I'm a big believer in rewards in hobbying. Painting is never my thang, but I set the reward for getting a bunch of them done, and it motivated me to finish the Plaguebearers (well, at least the first stage of them), and then get to my favorite thing in the hobby: converting.

So I went tearing through my bitz and came up with this guy. The body is a Forgeworld bile troll. One arm and the axes are from the minotaur kit. The head is leftover from a giant I put together years ago and the wings are from the plague drone kit.

If Fantasy sorta peters out, he's going on a round base. I love the story of Ignatius Grulgor from the Horus Heresy books; this could be him once he reappeared in the Medusa Campaign as a Daemon Prince. That expression on him just looks so pissed off and tormented, perfect for a prick like Ignatius!

Great Unclean One WIP

The GUO is coming along!


I had initially wanted to do a big weapon in his left hand, but instead went with just the hooked claw. I'm pretty sure the official one coming down the pipe from G Dub will be armed, so I held off on it. Also, giant weapons can be tough to pull off well, IMO. There are good ones, and then ones that look too over the top and silly.

I added a few Nurglings so far, with more on the way. The base will have a bunch on it as well. I had an idea to just completely fill the base with em', but figured it would make the model too busy, so pulled back on that. I want the focal point to be the daemon.

I turned the lower jaw upwards just a bit to make the face more menacing.

This kit is a joy to work with; so much fun! Next up will be plugging some of the holes with tentacles using Green Stuff Industries tentacle maker, finishing the base, and making a Fantasy base for him as I used a magnet to attach him to this one.

Building a better Great Unclean One

I did it. I couldn't hold out any longer. I decided not to wait for a new GUO model and will convert up one for use in both Fantasy and 40k!

The current little GUO is a wee guy now, what with the release of the new Bloodthirster kit. That boy is huuuuge! There is only one kit out there now that encompasses the size and girth of a Greater Daemon of Nurgle, and that is the Glottkin.

I just happened to get one in the mail the other day, so it's time to assemble! It's a really nice kit, not too complicated to put together at all. It will have some nice leftover bitz to use as well, especially the two Chaos Sorcerer riders.

So my idea for the Daemon is to use the main body of course, with a litle bit of manipulation of the head. I love the detail of the face, but I need to make him more "mine" and will be adding a single eye and horn. I think this will make him a little more Unclean. That face though, so cute only a Nurgling could love it.

So far I have assembled the legs and lower torso. Talk about cankles! 

I have a few more pieces to go on the torso, and then it's onto the arms and head. One thing I do not want to do with this guy is to just cut the back parts off and use him as a GUO. I plan on changing him up, mostly through the head and arms. I like the arms that come with him, but I'm thinking of making him holding a weapon, like maybe a big Nurgly looking axe or something. The "maw" arm will not be used, much as I like the nasty thing. Tonight I will scour my bitz for something that will fit the scale of the model. If not, I'll do some searching on Ebay or something.

On a couple of side notes, this dude took a tumble off my work area, and I had to reassemble him. I love this model!

I also got my work area finished up with some artwork hung. Mainly some D&D prints and some old art I did back in the day of...D&D stuff. Add in some Star Wars and I have immersed myself in nerdom.

Can't go wrong with Holloway, Dee, and Roslof!

Nurgly Wurlgy

I'm not dead! I feel happy!

So, I have been looking at the new Khorne Daemonkin stuff, and I really like what I see. GW rewarding the faithful with a mono-god codex for Chaos is uber-cool. I'm a fluff purist at heart, so I have always loved pure Khorne or Nurgle forces in the past. With the last two Chaos codexes, you sorta had to play some mixed stuff to stay competitive though. I didn't feel too bad about combining Nurgle and Slaanesh (the pink and stink list) or Nurgle and Khorne (pus and....ahh fuck, nothing rhymes). I can't wait to see a Nurgle Daemonkin book, and I think that's the one I'd like to build going forward.

Well, having said that, I need something to distract me from all this Khorny goodness, at least for now. I'm getting back into the swing of things, have my work area all done up, and will be setting up a gaming table soon out above the barn (I live on a horse farm now). It's time to jump back on the horse! (see what I did there?). A good warm up for painting would be my Fantasy Nurgle Daemon army.

I've had most of it built for a while now and absolutely love the models. They are pretty easy to paint up too. Only thing I'd love to build for it would be a proper Great Unclean One and maybe a Daemon Prince or two. With all the awesome Nurgle stuff released for End Times recently, there's definitely some good models to make some conversions out of.

Fantasy is about to make a comeback and I'm excited to see what direction it goes. And you know what? If it sucks, I'll have a fully painted army to move and that'll be that. I recently sold off my Orks and Ogres, so I have no qualms about scaling back my armies as I go forward. Don't get me started on the Skitarri, I love almost all the models coming out for them. Be disciplined, Brandon...stay on target...

Sorry Skeletor, you're just gonna have to wait!

Great Unclean One

This guy just seems so small now. I can't imagine how big the new one will be once they release it. I have a feeling it'll be one helluva model.

I added the Bile Troll weapons to him to give the model a little more kick. The horns are from an Ogre standard bearer bit.

Gonna start priming this army over the weekend as the temps are improving some. I'll paint some of the units over the next few months to take a break from 40k stuff. That always helps keep my motivation up.

Tallymen of Nurgle

I've been super busy lately, and haven't gotten my Hammer on at all, neither building, painting, or playing. I did get a chance tonight to base up some Plaguebearers though. Something about a fully ranked up unit just warms the heart...

More Nurgle Daemons

Progress on some of my Fantasy army this week. It's been fun working on it, not to mention a nice break from round bases.



This is the second Beasts of Nurgle unit. More of the same with some slight conversions to separate it from the other unit. Had to use some river troll and spawn arms as I'd used the weapon arms on my Great Unclean One already.

Next up is Nurgle's favorite Tallyman, Epidemius. He's made from an old metal Plaguebearer command model and rides a Necromunda giant ray thingy as a counts as palanquin. I've always loved that model and had to find a way to use it. I added a big, over the top gut to him to really up the gross level.

I made this Herald of Nurgle Standard Bearer using another old metal Plaguebearer. The head comes from the Grey Knight kit (it's skewered by a power sword) and I had to add half of the face back to him.

Lastly is a unit filler for one of my Plaguebearer units I cleaned up with some green stuff. Those little nurglings end up in the darnedest places!

Beasts of Nurgle

My WHFB army sits on a table behind my work desk. Daemons of Chaos, mono-god Nurgle. I built it a while back and it's pretty much done, except for a counts as Flesh Hound unit I want to do to tie them in with the Nurgly theme. I keep thinking more and more of finishing it to finally have a fully completed Fantasy army again. It might just happen as I really enjoyed painting that last batch of Plaguebearers. Who knows what's gonna happen with Fantasy this year. As I've written before, I really enjoyed the few games of 8th Edition I played and don't want to ditch my stuff; Fantasy is what brought me to the game after all.

I got an itch to finish the counts as Beasts of Nurgle unit tonight and it was a blast! I had to go through a ton of old Spawn bits to get them to fit right in the movement trays (which was a bitch!). Forgeworld really knocked it out of the park with these guys. I think they're gonna be really fun to paint!

Plaguebearers and unit filler

Making S L O W progress on my Fantasy Daemon army. I haven't played with square bases in a good while so there isn't too much motivation there. It is a nice change from doing all 40k, which I think is important as it doesn't get you too burned out model wise, so I try to work on them some as much as I can.

Another thing slowing me up may be that 9th Edition is probably coming next year. I'm excited to see what they change with Fantasy. I don't really have anything bad to say about the current edition, all my games with it have been fun. I know having big horde units probably turned a lot of folks off but I dug it; it gives Fantasy that epic battle feel I dig. I'm looking forward to a new Dwarf army too as long as they re-vamp pretty much the entire model line for them. Horrible, horrible core plastics...

I based this unit and finally got the unit filler done. That tentacle maker from Green Stuff Industries comes in handy once again! Poor cow though, it had no idea it would be the host for that Nurgling...

Nurgle Daemon Fantasy stuff

Took a break from painting to finish up some Nurgle Daemons I had sitting around (or sliming around?)

I plan on selling my Ogres and just going with these guys as my Fantasy army. When Dwarfs come out though, we'll talk.

Ol' Big Head McGee, Herald of Nurgle. I used the decapitated Plaguebearer head from the Grey Knight sprue for him. The scale is crazy off, but hey, its Daemons.
