Chaos Lord of Nurgle

It was a nasty day today and I was stuck inside organizing some bitz. I found a couple of pieces I had bought in the past I had forgot about and set about putting together a quick Nurgle Lord with them.

I think this is a record for how many different kits I could bash. His head is from the Chaos Warshrine kit, the torso from the Chaos vehicle accessories, arms from the Raptor set, legs are a Beastmen Gor, and the backpack and shoulder plates are from the Chaos Marine kit. He even has a small head trophy from the Plaugebearer kit, some old GW barb wire, and a small pouch from a secondary market kit which name escapes me. That's a lot of parts!

I added a little textured paint to the armor and some liquid Green Stuff here and there to gunk him up.

My favorite bit is definitely the head, just fits really well for a Plague Lord, horn and all.

Nurgle Soul Grinder 2 WIP

Almost done with the second Nurgle Grinder. More of the same with this one paint wise as the GW technical paints continue to be a blast to work with. I got a little more gory with this one!

WIP Blood Throne of Khorne

I don't know when I'll field her, but I really wanted to build one of these. Rules wise it's ok, nothing real special, but it does make for a fun conversion piece.

Had to go with some Juggernaut steeds...this blog is named from them after all. The chariot body is from the old metal Chaos Warrior chariot (screw you Finecast!). I added a few skulls here and there and will no doubt put a few more up; those and chains are a great way to hide gaps in the model. I added a banner to the front of the chariot to count as the Totem that let's you pass on the Herald's Locus to others nearby.

If you play Khorne you gotta play the target saturation game, and this beauty will need to be taken care of stat by your opponent cause it hits pretty hard. A Herald will wreck some stuff if you let him get into h2h.

Cyboars

Saw an Ork rumor the other day that cyboars may make it back into the next codex. I would love to see this; I've always loved the concept and think that some really kick ass models could be made for them. The old ones looked like juggernauts on meth.

I made a couple of my own a while back, nothing too crazy, just a tailpipe (literally) and a robot eye on one. I was going to use them as counts as bikers but never got around to finishing them.

I am REALLY looking forward to the new codex and all the craziness that will go along with it like new units, updated models, Escalation, etc. 2014 gonna be a good year!

Future Traitor Guard

Time for something a little different than Daemons and Chaos Marines.

I put a hold on building any Imperial Guard allies for both those forces until the new book comes out; who knows how they'll change game wise and the codex is not that far off if you believe what you read online. Thought I'd piece together a squad leader for my future Traitor Guard force, the Neiglen 116th "Sewer Chewers". I love the idea of a Traitor Guard army worshipping daemons or summoning them forth as allies for battle. I imagine these guys can get pretty desperate and have no qualms about unleashing the full power of Nurgle on anyone who opposes them.

The body is from Forgeworld and the bare arm from the Catachan kit. Hard to see but he has a map case on him from a secondary company I picked up on Ebay. The robotic arm is from the current Cadian kit, lots of excellent conversion pieces on there.

I have some tanks, a ton of foot troopers and a good amount of heavy weapons ready to go for this force, just patiently waiting...

Painting disasters (and some chicks)

What an awful night of painting I had yesterday.

I got the itch to paint that Hellbrute I posted the other day, and got to it after dinner. I went through my usual "man, this is looking rough" before applying the wash feeling  but something wasn't right. I could feel it as I brushed over the model, something like "uh oh, this isn't working".

We all have bad painting days. Days where the magic just isn't there. No desire, hand eye coordination just isn't clicking, whatever it is. This was one of those days.

I pressed on, "some Agrax Earthshade will fix her right up". How wrong I was. Even as I slopped on the wash to try to cover up the awful paint job and color selection, I knew...my heart was just not into this model. And if the heart isn't there, I'm not that advanced a painter to carry me through to completion. When I was done I put it down and walked away, hoping...wishing, that the wash would transform it into a good looking model. I was delusional, and this was confirmed in the morning. Before work I peeked into my war room and saw the results. Bad. Just...bad. I'm not even gonna post it here it's so bad. Funny thing is, it bummed me out all day!

I wonder if any of you have those moments as you paint an army up? How do you deal with it?

Only one thing would help me get over it. Build some new models (which will always be my favorite part of this hobby). I needed to get some Slaaneshi Heralds done up and built two. I placed them on some rubble to make them stand out from the other Daemonettes. The arms are from the Seeker kit, which will make them stand out even more in a big, complicated h2h.

These ladies helped me get over this traumatic painting session, and I want to thank them!

New Daemon Prince

Got this one cheap off Ebay the other day. I guess with the new plastic version out no one really wants these anymore. Not even gonna convert this one, I think he's prefect as is. I even dig his weapon as he'll be Nurgle and will be carrying a bale sword. His colors will be the same as my Death Guard since his armor looks close to them.

I took some better pics of my other Nurgle Prince with my new light set up, shows the colors a little better. These two will make for a nasty tag team on the board.

WIP Nurgle Soul Grinder

So I am LOVING these new GW technical paints. If you are a Nurgle guy or girl, these are made for you!

I built this thing a while back and it's been staring at me for a while from the shelf, begging to be painted. I'm glad I waited; I picked up some Typhus Corruption, Ryza Rust and Blood for the Blood God the other night and started experimenting with them. I kept the Death Guard theme going using most of the same colors for him.

The Typhus Corruption was a very easy wash to use, just hit up most of the metal leg parts with it, then followed it with a dry brush of Rza Rust. It makes for a nasty combo, covering much of the metal parts with a textured, brownish, coat of filth and then a tinge of rust setting in. Afterwards I went in and added some metal edges to it with Leadbelcher.

The Blood God paint is really fun to use in a splattering effect, like with an old toothbrush. I plan to hit up more of the power claw and legs with that. I'll also use some Secret Weapon weathering powders on her when finished, mostly at the bottom to simulate dried mud. I picked up some Tamiya weathering powders recently and may give those a go to really build up the rust in some areas as well.

Very impressed with these paints. I actually enjoyed painting for a change, something that has given me some trepidation in the past. I'm excited about getting on to the second one now!

Nurgle Hellbrute revisited

So the tentacle head from the Spawn kit I used on this ol' boy never felt right to me. It needed something different. Guess what? I got a fever, and the only prescription is more tentacle!

I think he looks adequately infected now. I used a MaxMini Biohazard head for him since they look just slightly on the large side for normal Marines. It fits pretty well and gives the model a real creepy feel. The Green Stuff Ind. tentacle maker is the gift that just keeps on giving...

As far as using this on the tabletop, well....probably not gonna see much action. I could maybe see one set up strictly for fire support for your vehicles as they advance up field; since they are low priority with all your other threats in a Chaos force they might survive for a while. Just gotta keep them outta hand to hand, they get murdered anymore.

Melta Raptors

Quick update...got some meltagun toting Raptors done for the squad. I'll probably end up making enough for two 5 man squads of them eventually. I can see these becoming my Riptide hunters; dropping down and hopefully hurting one enough that either it gets fried outright, or damaged to the point where it runs away all game.

Used the same FW torsos as the last bunch. I didn't have a second Chaos looking melta so I modified a Loyalist one a bit.

10K yo!

When I think about how long it's been since I played a game of Warhammer...

 photo tumblr_lsuwyk9z281qz9o13.gif

I am going to try to remedy that his weekend hopefully.

In other news, I was stoked to see I finally busted 10k page views! Thanks to everyone for checking out the blog, I appreciate it! Lots more stuff to come.

Death Guard Raptors

Some Nurgly Raptors for you today. Mixed in a few Forgeworld parts like torsos and shoulder pads to fit in with my foot slogging Death Guard. These will be fun to paint! I plan to add in a little texture here and there on the armor and some small tentacles busting from them as well. I don't know why I didn't open this kit earlier, they are some killer models.

Daemonette Squad

Got one squad of these honeys done and ready to prime. They are not the most fun to assemble; I am spoiled on putting together bigger models. These ladies desire a fine touch...how Slaaneshi of them. I always run them in the full allotment of 20 models as they are very delicate and need the numbers to soak up fire on the way in.

They are lead by an Alluress as a unit champion and a Herald of Slaanesh. Nice little tag team. The ability to take Loci and Psychic Powers are great. If you play against shooty armies (and who doesn't these days?) you better hope for Acquiescence from one or both of these girls. Shutting down Overwatch as much as possible is imperative for T3 troops who need to assault.

I made the Herald using a regular Daemonette body and the large claw arms and head from the Seeker box set. I think it will make her stand out pretty well in the squad .

Daemon Princess of Slaanesh

I'm sure a lot of folks looked at the new Dark Elf kits and thought...Slaanesh conversions. Soon as I saw the Bloodwrack Medusa I knew I had to convert a DP out of one. I luckily found one on it's own on Ebay and snagged it this week.

I had to switch her to be more Slaaneshi, so I added a head and claw from the Daemonette kit. When my wife saw the wooden scroll bit hanging off her spear she thought it was her purse. That bit may have worked it's way onto the model since I was watching Lords of Salem at the time. It'll be fun to add some daemonic looking writing to it. I may add some small chain to the top of it so it blends in with the weapon a little better.

Pretty easy conversion all in all. I'll paint her up in pinks and purples. Game wise they are damn fast but fragile; I'll have to try her out on the table soon.

Plaguebearers and unit filler

Making S L O W progress on my Fantasy Daemon army. I haven't played with square bases in a good while so there isn't too much motivation there. It is a nice change from doing all 40k, which I think is important as it doesn't get you too burned out model wise, so I try to work on them some as much as I can.

Another thing slowing me up may be that 9th Edition is probably coming next year. I'm excited to see what they change with Fantasy. I don't really have anything bad to say about the current edition, all my games with it have been fun. I know having big horde units probably turned a lot of folks off but I dug it; it gives Fantasy that epic battle feel I dig. I'm looking forward to a new Dwarf army too as long as they re-vamp pretty much the entire model line for them. Horrible, horrible core plastics...

I based this unit and finally got the unit filler done. That tentacle maker from Green Stuff Industries comes in handy once again! Poor cow though, it had no idea it would be the host for that Nurgling...

Sorcerer of Slaanesh WIP

I wanted to paint something new other than Nurgle and Khorne stuff and remembered I had this guy from way back that I never put together. I added a bit from the Daemonette kit and went to work. It was fun painting purple. I may end up like Marie from Breaking Bad now.

I love the pose of the model and the skin mask. Still have some highlighting and detail work to do on him.

For these pics I finally used a Daylight bulb, much better shots already!

WIP Death Guard Lord

He's made from an old CSM Lord model, with the arms replaced by a bolter and a Chosen axe. The bloated head is from the old Chaos Sorcerer model. I had that bit laying around forever waiting to use it for my Nurgle forces. Still have his eyes to finish and some spattered gore to add to him.

In other news, I have got to get a better photo taking set-up. I'm off next week (WOOT) so I'll have to go purchase some materials to make a light box. That should help. I also want to finish at least one of the Nurgle Grinders as well. I have a reenactment at the end of the week so I can't lollygag!

Khorne Lord

Let me axe you a question....
